1) The book will be a historical study on the preparations that preceded the founding of the Union of Gypsies-Roma (SCR) and there will also be an evening with a varied programme, presenting the topic in an accessible manner
2) An exhibition of photographs and other artistic works by Andrej Pešta, a Union of Gypsies-Roma activist. A catalogue of the photographs will also be published.
For 2018, the Museum of Romani Culture (MRK) plans the following:
a) Publication of a study about the preparations preceding the foundation of the Union of Gypsies-Roma (SCR), with the working title The Roma during the Revival Process, 1968-1969. This is an insufficiently researched topic that is often simplified by arguments such as that the creation of the SCR was made possible by the political thaw of the Prague Spring. We would like to place the foundation of the Union into a broader context, and consider also the sources as well as the limits of the Romani ethnic emancipatory movement in socialist Czechoslovakia. During the preliminary phase of the study, historical research will be undertaken in archives in Brno (the later seat of the Union’s Central Committee in Bohemia and Moravia), Bratislava (the seat of the of the Union’s Central Committee in Slovakia) and Prague.
b) An evening with a varied programme about the foundation of the Union, accessible to the general public, during which the book will be launched
c) An exhibition of photographs and other artistic works by Andrej Pešta, a Union activist, to be held at the museum from March 2018, and the publication of an accompanying catalogue of the photographs
